How to Choose the Right First Dance Song
The best first dance song is meaningful, comfortable to move to and suitable for the atmosphere you want to create - not simply the song everyone else uses.
The right first dance song should feel like yours. It does not need to be slow, traditional or currently popular, but it should support the kind of moment you want to create.
Begin with meaning
Consider songs connected to your relationship: music from an early date, a concert, a road trip or a shared favourite artist. A personal association often matters more than lyrics that sound perfectly romantic in isolation.
Listen to the complete lyrics
Some beautiful songs tell stories of separation or heartbreak. That does not automatically make them unsuitable, especially if the song is personally important, but it is worth knowing what the complete lyric says before committing.
Choose a comfortable length
You rarely need to use an entire four-minute song. Two to three minutes is often enough to create a meaningful moment without feeling exposed for too long. A clean edit can keep the strongest verse and chorus while preserving a natural beginning and ending.
Do not worry about the genre
Wedding dance choreography can be adapted to acoustic ballads, pop, country, rock, R&B and Latin music. Tempo changes can often be managed by using simpler movements or selecting a different section of the song.
If you are deciding between several options, bring them to your first lesson. Trying a small amount of movement can make the best choice immediately obvious.
